Kaid Vendemmia Tardiva (Late Harvest) a brilliant red wine with naturally sweet notes, typical of a 'passito' wine.
Wine-producing in Sicily is without doubt a kaleidoscope of soil and climatic conditions. A few kilometres as the crow flies can modify fertile landscapes and the same variety of grape, even on the same estate, can produce different but excellent results for the wine-producer. Thus from vendemmia to vendemmia, land cultivated with vines, which is subject to marked changes in day-night temperatures, yields a better quality fruit. These small bunches of rich and pulpy grapes, matured on the plant, embrace the rhythms of autumn and arrive in the wine-cellar at the end of November. They are then transformed into little carats of sugar, laden with perfume which the master cellar-man will conserve and safeguard.
From Alessandro di Camporeale, a family-run company spread out in the land of Alto Belice Corleonese, unusual if not miraculous production ideas are being experimented: making wine out of mature Syrah grapes, withered on the vine but not totally dehydrated, an operation which requires much love and care. 'The challenge is all in guessing the right time to pick', explains Anna Alessandro, a younger member of the family. 'The enriching processes of maturation must be controlled plant by plant every day. The yield is clearly very much reduced as is the number of bottles of Late Harvest Kaid 2006, which we can produce. But we are certain that it will be a real surprise for everyone'. We had talked about putting ourselves to the test with a sweet Syrah wine for a long time but only the weather in 2006 enabled us to produce really spectacular grapes.
Late Harvest Kaid 2006, therefore, is destined to find its niche as soon as it enters the market as it is an extremely valuable wine, which the Alessandro brothers have created. The high quality of these grapes is beyond doubt and the result is plain to see. Production is down but very selective and of the highest quality: a fact which wine experts will immediately appreciate. This production only makes use of part of the vine, combined with the best harvest conditions. This is a wine of outstanding quality.
Kaid has been the pinnacle of the Camporeale company for years and it continues to cross national borders; the investments made in the vineyards continually reward the Alessandro brothers. Late Harvest Kaid is ready to sit beside the already famous and much-appreciated Syrah: a calling card from a company which is in constant evolution, which looks to the future without losing sight of its relationship to the land.
